11th Day of Lawlessness

Wednesday March 3rd 2010 will see the annual ' Day of Lawlessness' return for some bad boy boogie with plenty of dirty deeds being done dirt cheap ! We've managed to persuade AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells to come back following their much raved about appearance last year.

With a flick of the switch, Hells Bells will be back in black to take the stage again and you, as well as I, remember their gig last year and I can say with honesty that their performance shook me all night long . Well, are you ready, cos the annual fundraiser will have got you by the balls by the time the rugby match kicks off at Supermarine RFC during the afternoon and both sets of players could be spoilin' for a fight as they contest the Fatboys shield for the 11th year.

Wiltshire Police RFC will be trying to get the shield back from our Lawless XV side after we gave them a drubbing last year. It was our first win in 10yrs of the competition but a fitting way to mark our tenth anniversary. Despite being underdogs we kept a stiff upper lip and with a walk all over you attitude and our backs to the wall, we left the Police team thunderstruck and spellbound at the end of the match. We'd lost narrowly a few times in the past so it was good riddance to bad luck.

Sorry Wilts Police, but it's dog eat dog and this year, if you want blood, you'd better fire your guns, because hell or high water, we're as hard as a rock, and like a heatseeker, we won't give it up and we'll go down fighting. So get ready to tread the highway to hell as our riff raff prepare to inject the venom. If we end up losing and getting shot down in flames by your goalkicker who likes to shoot to thrill, then have a drink on me as long as it's not a whole lotta rosie and it's something more akin to whisky on the rocks.

The evening function will be a night of rock n roll damnation at the 12 Bar again, as Dave Young and his crew play host to us for a fourth consecutive year. A great venue and always a great night. If you dare, you can rock your heart out. There will be performances from support bands with The Lawless hopefully turning out again, and Tin Shack, Animal House and others in the pipeline.

Naturally, money talks, and we'll be back in business with the auction with punters having the opportunity for some smash n grab great prizes such as River Cottage weekend, a week in a Villa in Spain, Premiership Football weekend in London, theatre weekend in Cardiff and much much more.

So, please support us.....buy a ticket from any of the committee members ......Reesy, Rizzo, Looey, Mobes Debz, Sue etc....tickets are still only £5.....no price increase in 11 years of trading !!.....and if you're wondering about the lack of sense with this article or haven't worked it out.........all the italics are titles of AC/DC songs just to get you in the mood.............see you on the night !! .....The Fatboys Team

10th Day of Lawlessness

The annual Fatboy's 'Day of Lawlessness' was a resounding success on its tenth anniversary. The afternoon saw Supermarine RFC kindly stage our annual rugby match. It turned out to be an historic day in the world of incredibly mediocre rugby (supplemented by some players who could actually run from one end of the pitch to the other without stopping for a fag and a pint halfway).

The mighty Lawless XV Rugby team defeated the Wiltshire Police team 38 points to 12 in a very physical game. This saw the Lawless XV lift the Mike Lawless Shield for the first time in the game's 10 year history. The Lawless team looked fantastic with their beer bellies poking through their sleek new all black evaporex strips with only the ash from their fags spoiling the newness of the shirts. (Lawless XV Rugby shirts available through the website at £25 each ) Team Captain Andy Sear said 'Thank god for ringers, now where's the bar?.....'

Following the presentation of trophies, the day moved on to the 12 Bar in Swindon and a packed attendance witnessed some truly fine moments of rock music and entertainment.

First up were Animal House, performing for the first time in ten years , having disbanded following the death of their frontman and friend Mike Lawless. They got things rocking from the off with a four-song set including two originals written by Mike ' Song For Sarah' (written for his fiancee who was present at the 12 Bar) and 'Drinkin' It Dry' which was Mike's anthemic drink n' roll song supplemented by Toto's classic 'Hold The Line' and Neil Young's 'Rocking In The Free World'. Mike's friend and former Landlord of the Queens Tap pub, Mick Brown, did an outstanding job filling in on lead vocals and guitar whilst lead guitarist Andy Woodward rocked out for the first time in many years. An excellent start to the evening.

Next up were annual favourites, The Lawless, who delivered the usual high quality performance of covers with all the vigour necessary to get the crowd buzzing and highlights included the Stereophonics 'Dakota' but the quality of musicianship all round was there for all to see, and the movement of the band just highlighted what a good night it was going to be, and how much fun everyone, including the musicians, was having. Nick , Steve and Gary rocked their socks off, whilst Al struggled to see over the top of his keyboard.

Then the arrival of Damon Scott. Fresh from his success on Britain's Got Talent and now an accomplished performer on the circuit. His 'unusual' and comic puppeteering got the crowd cheering and laughing and begged one young attendee, aged 10, to ask ' Mummy, what's a Camel Toe?!!!' Damon was a genuinely nice guy and great entertainer and really helped the night become a success. Many thanks to Damon.

And then they arrived on stage........ Hell's Bells had been awaited with great anticipation. They had been given a great build up by people who had seen them previously and the plaudits had circulated amongst the audience prior to the event even taking place. So, there was a little bit of worry as to whether Hell's Bells were going to live up to the hype. We needn't have worried......they were.....quite simply....an outstanding spectacle. Many AC/DC classics such as 'Whole Lotta Rosie' 'Shoot To Thrill' and 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' were faultlessly replicated but the overall buzz of the band was such that they were adding their own mark to the music. Hell's Bells were outstanding, and even now, two months on, their performance is still being raved about by those that were there. Many thanks to the band and their fans who came up from Bristol with them. Great bunch of people who really got into the spirit of the evening. We hope they will come back next year.

Finally, the auction got under way, and with some great lots on offer, including items donated by Hugh Fearnley - Whittingstall and Paul Weller, it helped to raise a grand total of £6000 on the day. Another successful year. Many thanks to all who supported us.
